So much for a distraction. Chen Fang fought back the upset groan that threatened to escape her throat, extending her arms out a little further in silence. Just take it, get your fill, and hand it back, she began to think to herself repeatedly, over and over, until it was all that she could hear in her head.
The scroll in itself had writings all up and down it upon being unraveled, but if it made sense to anybody other than Chen Fang and her father, that was left to be decided. Truth be told there wasn’t anything all too secret inside of it, it’s just that she worried about its physical state. Words can only be rewritten so many times from scratch before some of their meaning gets lost along the way, and in the case of a magical artifact such as that scroll, each and every word inside was important. There was no telling how distraught she’d be if a piece of it somehow went missing.
But perhaps she was overreacting… This young woman couldn’t do anything to damage it, right?
… Right?
As soon as she got her hands on the scroll, she rolled it open and began to read what was inscribed onto it. There were a lot of words, all to which she could understand one by one, but not all mixed together like it was. She blinked at it in confusion, letting out a ‘huh?’ sound every now and again, as she turned the scroll sideways, upside down, and right-side up. She could have been a tad more careful, but so far it was holding to her actions.
“Are these spells?” she asked, squinting her eyes at a particular part. Spells might have been too simple of a term, but it was what she called Zhou Yu’s scrolls that were more on the 'special’ side too. It roughly explained their use, even though she never learned how to trigger one herself.
Xiaoqiao couldn’t comprehend it - at least not at first glance. “Can I buy this from you maybe? Scholars sell their scrolls sometimes, right?”
