…What was this? He felt something strange, looking at her confused and distressed state. Why wasn’t this as fun as he thought it would be? He wanted to grin, he wanted to tease her, lie to her, tell her of all these fabricated things about how badly he tortured his counterpart, but he felt… what is it. Bad? He felt bad. Yes, that must be it. He felt bad for toying with someone this innocent. How odd it is. He’s never felt bad before. There must be a reason why he feels it now.

He would not show an inkling of guilt on his face, but he would not cause more distress to her than need be, for now. “I am Lu Xun. But I’m not Lu Xun. It’s a long story.”
Would explaining his origins make any sense to her? Why should he even be honest with her in the first place? He doesn’t trust her in the slightest. She’s a potential obstacle. No, not potential—is an obstacle.

"I haven’t touched him. He’s fine,” is all he said. He was letting emotion slip through, however, as his brows furrowed slightly in frustration. Normally, he’d spill everything carelessly, because he’d end them right after… But, he didn’t want to kill her. She didn’t do anything wrong.

Then again… neither did the others.

Xiaoqiao was dumbfounded. She tilted her head and scrunched up her face a little, a signal to show that she was incredibly confused. He’s Lu Xun - but he’s not. He is the young strategist, but at the same time, he’s not. She didn’t know of anything that could change the color of one’s eyes, besides maybe magic, so she was starting to wonder if maybe the other was cursed…. only for that to be shut down by him signalling that the real Lu Xun was fine.

She needed her husband. Maybe he could understand what was going on here. Alas, he wasn’t anywhere near here, and her stubbornness refused her to genuinely ask him for help.

As much as she wanted to ponder about something that sounded way too complicated for her to understand, she decided on an alternative. The real Lu Xun was fine, so maybe she didn’t have anything to worry about. It was this ignorance that messed things up, but at the same time, it was what kept her happy. She giggled then, sprouting a new smile.

“You have prettier eyes than Lord Lu Xun, Lord Lu Xun,” she said with a laugh, finding the situation less serious than it should be. “Do you know why they’re like that?” She asked, with a bit of awe in her tone. She went from being cautious and untrusting to completely trusting of this stranger in a few seconds; no wonder she got herself into so much trouble.
